MATWORK PILATES

WHAT IS MATWORK PILATES

Matwork Pilates is unsurprisingly performed on a mat! I use 5mm mats so that I can provide cushioning and support to joints. The movements require focus on core activation (not just your 6 pack muscles), as well as finding length and alignment. Gravity and bodyweight provides resistance and I also add in a few fun pieces of equipment to keep workouts creative.

WHAT IS PILATES?

Pilates, is a low-impact, full-body workout that channels the mind-body connection to achieve precise, controlled movements that promote alignment, balance, and strength. It can be performed with little to no equipment. Pilates is not just about great posture and a rock-hard core. It is more than just a physical exercise, and can radically enhance mental, emotional and spiritual well being too.

WHO CAN DO PILATES?

Anyone! From kids up to the retired generations, everyone can reap the benefits of Pilates. Due to its low impact nature (no jumping) and the adaptions that can be made for injuries, spinal issues, pre/post natal as well as the benefits for athletes and day to day movement - we are seeing a huge jump in the popularity of Pilates.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM MY PILATES WORKOUT?

I start every session by running through core activation, spinal positions, breathing and what I mean by some of my most used cues. I will check if you are comfortable with me making physical adjustments. All workouts will begin with ab focussed exercises because it is vital that your core is activated regardless of which muscle group we are targeting. Then we move on through the glutes, inner thighs, lower and upper back.

WHY DO YOU NEED ME?

Pilates requires close supervision and absolute precision. To ensure this I will firstly demonstrate exercises and then allow you to continue whilst I talk you through cues that ensure that you are keeping perfect alignment and the right muscles turned on. Depending on what you are looking for I will make judgements that keep you at the intensity level you are looking for and at the lowest risk on injury. My job is to keep you motivated, focussed and rewarded with a super satisfying workout. .

HOW DOES PILATES RELIEVE STRESS?

There is no time to think about what you need from the shops, or if you replied to that last email. Pilates requires a strong mind-muscle connection, high levels of concentration and a real inward focus to be able to tune in to what your body is doing. We don't get a lot of time to stop the whirlwind in our minds so its fantastic to have a mental break while you just focus on the most important thing - You and Your Health.
